BW 3.5 SP5 white paper applicable to SEM 3.1B / BW 3.0B

Hi,

Can a white paper for BW 3.5 SP5 be used with SEM 3.1B sp 23/BW 3.0B sp 24 ?

Where can I find this information ?

The white papers I am working on are the ones to enhance the web application with sub-classes (ABAP 00).

Thanks

David

Hi,

Thanks very much for the quick answer.

You say that with SEM-BPS, when the web interface is generated, the changes are lost. I indeed get a message that the class is deleted but when I look at the code, I can still see my enhancements in the LOAD method.

Hi,

Honestly - that surprises me... But your changes seem to work don't they? Anyway I would be careful with regeneration.

Gerd

Hello David,

The answer is - it depends...

From SEM-BPS 3.xx to BW-BPS 3.5 there was no fundamental technology change. Thus a lot of the how to papers are applicable to SEM-BPS and BW-BPS alike.

Most of the changes between SEM-BPS and BW-BPS happened in the area of Web Interfaces and the Status and Tracking system. Thus those how to papers usually do not work with BW-BPS. However on the title page of the how to paper it should be mentioned for which release (BW-BPS and SEM-BPS) it is applicable.

The how to paper you are asking about is unfortunately not applicable directly in SEM-BPS. In BW-BPS you can inherit from the class used in a web application. In SEM-BPS you can also use a class but have to change the generated class directly. If you enter a name in the field for the application class then the system generates this class. You can now change the coding of this class. If you regenerate you will loose all the changes so be careful when you generate the web interface. The disadvantage in BW-BPS is that you do not loose the changes after re-gerneration. The generated class (SEM-BPS) and the inheriting class are very similar so you can use the information from the how to paper for doing the code changes.
