Lumira usability concerns with Excel

Hello all,

I've been working in Business Intelligence solutions for a few years now and I've learned different tools, including Lumira 1.30.

Lumira is a good BI tool and has interesting functions. It works particularly well with databases (SQL, SAP Hana, etc.).

However with Excel files, I have to redo several tasks from scratch because:

- I can't remove merged/append files (the delete cross is gray). I've done some wrong merges and cannot remove them. Consequently there is useless data bluring the data management. This is not critical but remove cluttering is one of the BI objectives.

- Appending data from an Excel with some different columns is almost impossible (the matching function is complicated to apply, overall if there isn't the same amount of columns). So I have to do preprocessing tasks with Excel by redoing the same columns.

- Sync. functions for calculated dimensions doens't work with new append data. Why not?

- Merged columns having empty cells must be considered in calculated dimensions (ex: if col1<> null and Contains(col1,'data') then Category = 'car'). It could be understandable in an IT point of view, but in a usability point of view, does it makes sense? (null values should be merely ignored)

- When we modify a calculated dimension including a new column from a new merged table, it doesn't work. I have to delete the calculated column and redo it including the new data.

- Sync function for a specific table must be done with the modify function. Sorry: It doesn't make sense. There should be a function "sync this table" or a pop up in the sync function with the options "sync this table" or "sync all tables".

Furthermore, it seems that there is no mention of bug fixes from Lumira 1.30 to Lumira 1.31.

I also understand that Lumira is more adapted to SAP Hana and data bases. However, if Lumira has the option to manage excel files, it should work perfectly and without workarounds.

Having quite a good knowledge on similar tools, I know that those feedbacks could be improved.

Please also consider those feedbacks as an opportunity to improve Lumira greatly.

Have you previewed some robustness/usability improvements in the next versions?

Hope this helps,

Nicolas
