Moving to an HA environment

I am wanting to move our Production SAP ERP 6 (ABAP Only) application server to a HA using MSCS cluster. I have performed this procedure by bringing up another system using the Hetergenous System Copy to see how it works, etc. Now I want to move our Production Application system (ASCS and Enqueue Instance) to this environment with very little downtime. Has anyone done this and if so, how did you go about it?

Our Environent is Windows 2008 R2 and SQL 2008 R/2.

Question/Concern:

1. I want to keep the same host name so how do I install/configure the new servers that will be running MSCS by using the same host name while Production is still running?

Hi Sunny, thanks for your reply but I don't think you understood my question. I know I can use the system copy method but how do I prepare this system with the new HA SAP system with the same host name as my Production system with Production still being online (DNS issues). I need to do all of this with as little downtime as possibe and I don't know of a way without having to change my host name for SAP.

Hi,

This is not an easy exercise, and you need to test all things. You would not be able to convert an existing system to HA because you existing system would not be installed as per HA guidelines. So, best possible to do this is method which i suggested you above.

And for this activity you need downtime, you cannot perform this while keeping production online.

Thanks

Sunny

Hi,

If you want to move your system to MSCS cluster then best option is system copy method.

1) Install Fresh System on cluster and do all testing.

2) After that restore your production backup on cluster and bring system up.

Thanks
