Deploy adapter framework non-centrally

I'm trying to deploy the adapter framework non-centrally so I can make java proxy calls from a non-XI J2EE server (WAS 6.40), but I can't find documentation on how to do it correctly. Can somebody send a link?

This is described in the "Installation Guide - SAP Exchange Infrastructure 3.0" and the "Configuration Guide - SAP XI 3.0" as well. Follow the specific parts for the Adapter Engine.
