Hi,
for a material two classes (class type 300, Variants) are assigned in CU43 (configuration profile):
1) Class STATUS)
2) Class of the material itself, e.g H9650
When a sales order is created or in trx CU50 in most cases the order of the characteristics is the same as how it is set up in the configuration profile, i.e. first the characteristics of Class STATUS are shown, then the characteristics of the class of the material, e.g. H9650. However, for some materials the sequence is the other way around, so first the characteristics of the material class are shown, then the ones of class STATUS.
I have asked SAP about this and the answer is that the standard coding doesn't support the feature of sorting the characteristics by classes within the configuration,in CU50, or CU51, or VA01/VA02. In these t-codes, all of the characteristics are pooled together, and sorted by an internal number. And it is not based on the configuration profile, so may get different
order between two materials.
I still would like to know why this internal sorting logic behaves differently for two materials. As far as I can see, the configuration and classes are set up in the same way, I do not see a difference. Does anyone have experience with the same phenomenon ? I know it is possible to rearrange the sequence of classes / characteristics via the interface design / grouping functionality, but why should I have to use it for some materials, whereas for most of the materials the sequence of the characteristics is "as expected" (according to the setup in CU43) ?
Kind regards, Fré Havinga

Hello Fre,
Characteristic are sorted CABN-ATINN (internal number) so that is very strange that you have different sortings for different materials.
Do these materials have different or more classes ?
Thanks

Hi, the materials have two classes, STATUS and one with the configuration of the material itself, e.g. H9650 (which is the same as the material number).
