Our client needs to distinguish between End users and Power Users. We are planning to have template based reports in web-i. Which means we only want Power users to be able to edit the report & query and then re-save and overwrite the orignal template.
However, for end users we would like them to be able to edit the report only but not to re-save and overwrite the orignal template and therefore only save there changes to their favourites folder.
So this does mean that end users shold only have read access to the public folders.
We will be using BOBJ XI 3.1 initially but this will be uprgade to 4.0 later.
can the above be achieved in 3,1 and 4,0 ?
Thanks for your help in advance
Bal,
Slight modification to my solution.
Given End Users View on Demand to this folder
Giving View doesn't show the Save As Option. With View on Demand, the Save As option is there but not the Save option.

Hi dayl,
Can you please check again if one user have View On Demand rights on particular folder then user can only View,Refresh the report. in this case user can not edit the report.
But the same time if you give user access to view, edit, refresh the existing report then user can able to do changes in the existing report and can save the report.
Thanks,
Amit
Thanks Amit and Dayl for your responses it is really pareciated.
Amit - from your reply it seems that what can be achieved is the end users can edit the report but save it to another folder.
To be more specific, I need to stop the end users from saving there changes to the public folders (this is where we store the template reports and hence end users can only have view access to public folders). But the end user must be able to save there changes to the template report to there favorite folders only. Is this what you meant is possible in XI 3.1 ?
Has anyone done a similar set up to this before ?
thanks
Bal : I am saying if your requirement for end user is like they can edit the existing report, refresh but can not save the report.in this case users have rights to edit the report and you cannot control to save the same report.Users can do changes in the report if they have edit rights.
You can achieve for end users view the existing reports, refresh but can not edit report.
or can view the reports, refresh and can create there own reports and can save in the favorite folder.
Thanks,
Amit
Try this.
Create 2 Groups: Power Users & End Users
Create a folder under All Folders called something like Templates
Give Power Users Full Control to this folder
Given End Users View to this folder
If you haven't setup folders under All Folders before, you may need to give advanced access to the 2 groups to All Folders and Allow View, Disallow Delete and select "Apply to Object" for both of these.

Hi,
as per your requirement for end user can edit the report but can not save the report after changes..You can not do this on BO 3.1.Once you give the users rights to edit the report they can do change sin the report and can save report.(Can not disable save button). You can achieve users can not save as report in the same folder in BO 3.1.
In BI 4.0 you can achieve above things.
Thanks,
Amit
Thanks Amit and Dayl for your responses.
I am just confused as to the correct ans as your ans coflict each others.
Has either of you faced this issue as well ?
I really need to know this as I need to make recommendations to my clients.
So Aamit - you are saying that this can be achieved in web-i 4.0 but not in 3.1 ? as I have not been able to get this working in 3.1.
Would be real great to know if you have actaully done this set up before.
thanks very much for responding back to me.
Thanks
