Connecting to MaxDB using SQL Studio or dB Manager issue

Hi,

To connect to the <b>MaxDB database instance</b> installed during WebAS installation, which user id and password needs to be used? And what is the user id like.. e.g <hostname>/<..> etc. I remember configuring a password for SAP Administrator, for service, for J2EE engine, guest and database schema. Or is there a default password?

Thanks.

Hi Sumith,

to connect using SQL Studio, you can use the SAP<SID>DB user, which has a default password (unless specified otherwise during the installation).

To connect using the Database Manager GUI, you've probably got the default aswell.

If you don't know the defaults, I could send them in a mail to you.

Hope that answered your questions.

Regards,

Roland

Hi Roland,

My SAP SID is SJ1 and Database is DJ1. So the user would be SAPSJ1DB, right. I have installed the preview version with SP9 and it had asked password for SAP Administrator, SAP Service, J2EE engine, Database Schema and Guest. I had given different passwords for each. I guess I have to you one of these passwords? But which one?

And about Database Manager that came in the installation directory for MaxDB? It asks for password to connect to the database? I don't know the default password too. If you can send me, it would be great !

Thanks,

Sumith Rajagopalan.

Hi Mohamed,

just to clarify:

- you want to drop your database instance

- you don't know any passwords concerning your instance anymore

Do you still see your instance using the Database Manager GUI? Can you connect to it at all using said tool?

Roland

Hi,

I'm also trying to drop the database instance use dbmcli, however, I forgot what I had specified as the password for my user during installation. Is there a way for me to reset it?

Thanks,

Tai

Unfortunately, I did not install any of the GUI tools for SAPDB. Is this absolutely required?

Hi Tai,

no, the tool is not mandatory.

Can you connect with any of the following:

1. dbmcli -d <SID> -u control,control

2. dbmcli -d <SID> -u dbm,dbm

3. dbmcli -d <SID> -u superdba,admin

4. dbmcli -d <SID> -u dba,dba

Kind regards,

Roland

Hi Ronald,

I seemed to have locked all the Ids that you have mentioned in your thread. Is there any way I can reset the password? Your help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello,

1)

Please review the document at

http://maxdb.sap.com/doc/7_7/default.htm -> Glossary -> Database Manager

"SAP MaxDB Database Manager is a database tool for creating and managing databases, database users, and Database Manager operators."

You could run the SAP MaxDB Database Manager without passwords, but you need the user/pwd information to connect to the database.

2)

You could check the default database user's , DBM Operator passwords in MaxDB Library:

http://maxdb.sap.com/doc/7_7/default.htm -> Glossary -> DBM Operator

&&

http://maxdb.sap.com/doc/7_7/default.htm -> Glossary -> Database System Administrator

-> Changing Passwords of Standard Users

3)

If you have further questions/problems to connect to your database using Database Manager, please create the new thread. Please post also additional information :

    • What is the version of the database instance?

    • What SAP MaxDB Database Manager tool you are using < dbmcli ? Database Studio? DBMGUI? > ?

What version?

Thank you & best regards, Natalia Khlopina
