SPM without Enterprise Portal

Hi

As per the Master guide, the Netweaver components EP and EP CORE are a prerequisite but we have been informed that EP causes lot of connectivity issues and we can use the local BW portal and that EP is not recommended.

Can you suggest if the above information is correct, how we can bypass EP use SPM application without the connectivity issues

Regards

Neel

Hi Rohit

Thank you so much for the reply. So I am just reconfirming.

You mean to say we need to use the built in EP portal and it is not recommended to have a separate EP as a consumer portal which is not the case with us

So we are fine as of now with only the integrated BW JAVA EP?

Yes Neel, a separate EP portal is not necessary. Few customers do have a separate portal which they login using single sign-on and are redirected to BW portal where they can launch SPM.

Rohit

Hi Rohit

Can you please let us know in the following scenario :

1) The user authenticates against the URL <protocol>://<host>:<port>/irj/portal

Now either:

a)The portal launches the SPM iview. We open the URL http://<host>:<port>/flex/index.html using the option open in new window.

b) We keep using the application from <protocol>://<host>:<port>/irj/portal

So in case b do we keep on using EP and where as in case a we only using EP to authenticate in step 1 and then are using the SPM application direclty

Is my understanding correct

If yes, does that mean once we login using EP , we set the property to launch the application in new window

If no, what other mechanism can we use to directly launch the application

Also just to be aware of our landscape

We are using single stack installation with NW 7.01. Our AS ABAP and AS Java are on separate boxes. We have installed component EP and EP Core as mentioned for Prerequisuites in SPM master guide

We are not using EP for any other application except SPM.

Also we use the URL <protocol>://<host>:<port>/irj/portal to access the application

So what is basic difference between EP and the BI portal in this case as we are using this as a BI portal only

Need your help.

Thanks in advance

Hi Neel,

First its important to understand that you need to have a BW ABAP & BW JAVA stack and communication between them working. BW JAVA stack has an built-in EP, which where your users need to login. As I mentioned earlier you dont need a separate EP installation. So your users can login to the BW portal (<protocol>://<host>:<port>/irj/portal) authenticate themselves and then be able to launch SPM application (http://<host>:<port>/flex/index.htm).

You can grant them the standard portal role 'SSA' which would give them access to the 'Spend Performance Management' tab. You can change the property of this iView to launch the application in a new window.

Hi Rohit

If EP is not required, then can we run the SPM in flex or you are suggesting to run in Bex Web Analyser? What will be the standard URL in that case. What other changes are required?

Hi Neel,

SPM UI is built using adobe flex which is delivered and access through the BW portal. So there is no need for a separate EP. In the BI portal we have delivered an iView and a role that would grant users to this iView allowing them to access the SPM application.

Hi Neel,

You are right. EP is not required. All SPM needs is BW ABAP + BW JAVA to run.
