Parallel Extractor

Hi All,

Does anybody know how to enable parallel process in data extraction?

I need to extract COPA data from SAP ECC 6.0 to SAP BW 7.0 and I want the data to be extracted in parallel. It is my knowledge that in SAP BW 7.0 I cannot set it via menu bar (please see below screen cap).

So I looked around and found info about RSBATCH TCode. I set the LOAD_NEWDS process type to have 10 parallel processes. This created an entry in RSBATCHPARALLEL table (please see below screen cap). But when I run the infopackage the there's only 1 job created.

Please do share some insight. Thanks

    Hi Andry,

Goto SBIW transaction in ECC and you will be able to set the no. of parallel processes in source system extraction parameters option.

And if you want to change this setting from BW then goto InfoPackage settings. There also you have the option to set no. of parallel process for extraction.

      Hi All,

I finally found a way to set the extraction to run in parallel. SBIW TCode applies for SAP BW 3.5, while I use SAP BW 7.0. In SAP BW 7.x, the control is determined by SMQS. (as mentioned in SAP Note 1163359).

Based on this knowledge, I set the Max.Conn. to be 10 and run the infopackage again. But I encountered unexpected result. After I set the Max Conn to 10, the extraction took longer than when using previous setting (Max Conn = 2). I monitored the Process Overview (SM50), and it seemed that the extraction does not use all dialog process that I have set (10). The max I ever got was 5 process running in parallel. Please see below screen cap

I have looked at SAP Note : 977283, 995057, and 1051445 but all the corrections mentioned in the notes have been implemented in the ECC and BW systems I use.

So basically I succeed in making the extraction running in parallel, but the performance is not getting better. Does anyone know how to resolve this?

Btw, I'm curious. I extracted 942,275 records in approximately 2,400 seconds (with max conn = 2) . Is it slow?

Probably the issue might be due to due to non background user trying to run the job in background.

you may use su01, and change the user type in tab 'logon data', set the type to 'system' or 'background'. ask basis help if you have no authorization to do so
