Upgrade from BW 2.1C/SEM 3.0A to BW 3.5/SEM 4.0

Hi,

We are upgrading from BW 2.1C/SEM 3.0A to BW 3.5 (Netweaver 04)/SEM 4.0. In SEM we have implemented SEM-BPS only.

We will greatly appreciate if anybody in the forum has any experience in such an upgrade and is willing to share with us.

    Hello Sujoy,

    If you want to upgrade to BW 3.5 and if ou have installed an SEM Add-on you also have to upgrade the SEM to 4.0. But as we have a lot of customers having this situation and who do not want to be part of the ERP ramp up we have a so-called "lean rampup". In the lean rampup you can upgrade BW to BW 3.5 and SEM to SEM 4.0 without being in the ERP rampup. Note that this is only possible if you are using only SEM-BPS and no other SEM component. If you want to use any other component of the SEM 4.0 (like BCS or CPM) you have to be in the standard ERP rampup.

      Hi,

      The problem is that you have SEM 3.0A on your system. SEM 3.0A support ended in May 2001!

      SEM 3.0B is the current supported release that is compatible with SAP BW 2.1C.

      You will have to upgrade SEM 3.0A to 3.0B prior to starting the SAP BW 3.5/SEM 4.0 upgrade. If I remember this is a relatively easy process (in addition this will install the finbasis add-on).

      You can order the SEM 3.0B/Finbasis CDs (or download them if your SAP contract permits you)
