Dear Joy,

I would suggest you to check in PP forums before posting a query related to master data. There are so many threads related to

this topic.

Standard sequence of operations, parallel sequence and alternative sequence set of operations can be created if required in a

standard routing. Further to this sequence exachange can be configured for alternative sequence for an order type in OPL8,so

that we can use either the standard sequence of operations or else alternative sequence depending upon the business

requirements.Mostly this is used in a discrete manufacturing.

In a rate routing only standard sequence and parallel sequence(set of operations) can be created for a product and it's not

possible to create alternative sequence. Further to this it's possible to post the activities in a standard sequence and parallel

sequence operations in repetitive manufacturing.

Dear,

Rate routing is used for repetative manufacuting REM and routing for Discrete manufacturing . Routing list the no of operations required to manufacture one product where as rate routing will have a single production line and also in REM we dont have any setup time and same product is manufactured over longet period of time

Rate routing is used in Period based costing and routing is on order based costing and Task list defined in the system in N for routing and R for rate routing .

Hope it will help.

Hi,

The major difference between routing and rate routing is..

Routing contains both PARALLEL and ALTERNATIVE sequence.

Rate routing does not contain ALTERNATIVE sequence..

this is the major difference...

Dear ,

Rate Routing:

1.A routing for whose operations the production quantity and a fixed duration has been defined. Thus the production rate is also defined.

2.Rate routings are used when you plan on a quantity basis, for example in repetitive manufacturing.

3.A rate routing has the same structure as a routing. You can assign a rate routing to a material to be produced. It can have prallel sequences.

4. It is used for Discrete manufacturing.

5. It has a set up time, machine time & all other activities.

6. Mainly it is used for order based costing.

7. Use tcode CA01 to create routing

8. Use Standard value key SAP1 in work center.

Routing

1.Routings are used directly in production orders for a material.

2.A routing can be used without restrictions. Some functions from other task list types such as rate routings and inspection plans are also available in routings.

3.As well as a standard sequence a routing can also have parallel and alternative sequences. You can assign a routing to a material to be produced.

4. It is used for Repetitive manufacturing.

5. It has no set up time instead of that it has rate based timings. ie, qty & cycle time.

6. Mainly it is used for period based costing.

7. Use Standard value key SAP3 in work center.

8. Use tcode CA21 to create rate routing.

Rate routing generally has only one operation and prod line instead of work centers and operations in routings .

Both routings can be used for scheduling , cosing and capacity planning .

Thanks

Dear Jinto,

The differences are....
