Copy control - Item number

HI,

I am copying one sales order with referance of another one.

in new sales order we are able to edit material but we are not able to edit Item number it is grey out.

when we checked copy control setting inthat setting "Item number" has checked

Is this is happening because of that or some other settings are there?

we want enter item number manualy so ut should be in editable mode.

yes, because of activation of copy item number at copying controls between Target Document and Source Document at Header Level. If this field checked, then system takes item numbers of source document only. It ignores the number range maintained in the target document.
