Problem patching WAS 6.40 to SP10

Hi.

I'm having problems trying to patch a PCK environment. i installed from the CDs which leaves me starting with a blank Web Application Server, Version:

Cluster-Version: 6.30 PatchLevel 70119.32

I started with patching this version to SP4 due to SAP Note 697535. This step was completed successfully.

But now i tried applying SP10 and this seems to fail since it stops at Phase "Deploy online" with a last log message:

INFO 2005-01-12 16:05:37

Output of C:\j2sdk1.4.2_06/bin/java.exe '-Xmx256M' '-jar' 'D:\usr\sap/J2E/JC00/SDM/program/bin/SDM.jar' 'deploy' 'list=C:\Programme\sapinst_instdir\PATCH\ADA/SDAS_TO_BE_DEPLOYED.LST' 'onerror=stop' 'sdmhome=D:\usr\sap/J2E/JC00/SDM/program' 'logfile=C:\Programme\sapinst_instdir\PATCH\ADA/callSdmViaSapinst.log' 'logtoconsole=true' is written to the logfile java.exe.log.

I can't find any errors but the sapinst does neither continue and nor does it seem to 'hang' or 'freeze'. the log viewer is still responding but thats all.

Any help ???

Having a look at the SAP MMC i found that all processes are running besides SDM, which is 'stopped'.

    Hi Frederic,

You mentioned a SAP Note 697535. I am trying to find this note, but SAP says that note does not exists yet. Could you please confirm the number for that note?

    Thanks in advance

    Fernando

    Frederic,

I have had a similar problem many times, I'm not sure its the same error message, but what I always did and it works is leave the sapinst running and manual stop and start the server using sap mmc. It should then resume the installation. If it doesnt work the first time try it again. It will eventually start all the way up, I think its MICROSOFT !!!! WINDOWS!!...hehe

p.s. see if you can do a developer trace in sap mmc on SDM and post it if the above doesnt work
