How to use Capable-to-promise functionality of PP/DS.

Former Member

We are working for Cable manufacturing firm and wish to use Capable-to-promise functionality of PP/DS. Presently we are using customized length based planning heuristics (which is customised form of SAP_PP_002) for creating planned orders and the PP planning procedure used is also customized length based (which is customized form of Planning in Planning run).

Please let us know how we can use Capable-to-promise in such a case so that the planner can get reliable delivery date/ time when creating a sales order. We understand using the CTP procedure, we can execute an ATP check in APO when creating the sales order for the required product and we can trigger production planning and detailed scheduling if the sufficient quantity of the product is not available.

Let us know if we need to do any other settings. Our finished product is configurable material with make-to-order (strategy group u2013 26) and semi-finished product strategy is planning with final assembly (strategy group u2013 40). Accordingly, check modes are 047 and 050 respectively.

You can have a look at the SAP Best Practices for SCM V2.50

[SAP Best Practices for SCM V2.50|http://help.sap.com/bp_scmv250/index.htm]

go to Technical Information->Building Block Library

select S29 - Capable-to-Promise

open the configuration guide.

In this document you can read how CTP is set up.

Hi Frank,

THanks for you reply.

We have gone throught he building blocks, but we find it mentioned for rough cut planning. Do we have separate building block document for PPDS.

THe production planning procedure mentioned in the buliding block is 3 but we are using planning procedure 4 which is customised as per our client requirements, thereby can please let us know if we can go ahead using 4 as planning procedure?

Hi,

the S29 - Capable-to-Promise configuration guide is for PP/DS.

S16 - Production Planning configuration guide describes how to set up PP/DS.

You have to follow the prerequisite matrix to know the order of steps for configuration of scenarios.

The scenario is S38 - Make-to-Order with Capacity Check.

Planning Procedure 4 does not work for CTP because for CTP you need

Action Carried Out by PP When an Event Occurs

Actions for covering dependent and stock transfer requirements immediately

Hi Frank,

Thanks for your reply.

Presently we are using standard planning heuristics to create planned orders and the

production planning procedure is 4 customized as per the requirement.

Now to run CTP we need production planning procedure 3. Can we customized the same as per the requirement. Also,

when we run our standard planning heuristics to create planned orders, the same would be workable. I mean customized

production planning procedure 3 will help in regular planning as done earlier.

S,

Rather than change SAP standard Planning procedures, it is usually considered a better practice to create a new PP, as a copy of one of the standard PPs, and then customize per your requirement. This way you always have the 'undisturbed' PP in your system, to be available for troubleshooting when necessary.

I can't say to you what customization will be permitted/required for your PP, it depends upon your business requirements. At an absolute minimum, for CTP to work, you must include "Start product heuristic immediately" for 'create or change a sales order', and the heuristic should be similar in functionality to SAP_PP_CTP. Many variations are possible, you will have to determine for yourself what is required for your scenario in order for you to be able to complete the entire CTP business cycle. You also will have to determine for yourself any additional non-standard features you can add, that do not conflict with Standard CTP functionality.

Best Regards,
