Hi Experts ,

i am using ECP for one of my requirements and it is a construction project .I have created characters (Lenght , Bradth and depth) for one of the cost models and for one line item (First line item )in the cost model let us say for an example , For concreting a column i enter the respective values for character (Length , Breadth and depth) and the quantity in the form of values are picked from these three characters as defined in the derivation rule.

When i am trying to enter the values for the second line item for the beam, the system i is picking the first values which were entered for Characters for first line item .

Please let mw know whether am i missing some thing in this process as my requirement is i want to use the same characters but the Values that are being entered for each line item shall vary .

Please help...

Hi Judy,

The characteristics can be used only onces in a perticular planning form. In your case you may have to define more characteristics. You will have to create characteristics L,B,D for Columns and L,B,D for Beams as well. So overaa you would need 6 characteristics for your requirement.

Hope this helps.

Hi Srinivas Potluri ,

Many thanks for your reply.

The suggestion given by you might not suits to our requirement as we have many such line items . I have only given two examples .However, we have many such line items similar to beams and colums which uses the characters L B D .

Can you please sugest some alternative methods.

Hi Judy,

The best way would be to sub divide the cost estimate. Once you are in the ECP screen, choose the "Sub divide cost estimate" and create various components as needed. In this case you will be able to use the same template many number of times, under a perticular WBS element. The cost will get accomulated in the WBS under which you have created the estimate.

Another way is to make changes to the WBS structure to suit to the requirement and use the template onces in every WBS element.

Hope this help.

Hi Srinivas ,

Thank you once again for the inputs .

We are aware of this .

using the subdivide function will increase the structure with lot of duplications on the screen from an end user perspective .This is also time consuming and increases the data entry as everytime calling the sub divide item and then entering the description for the cost models etc...

Basically the intention is to keep the structure simple and straight .

Hi Judy,

May be you can try to automate the process of calling the sub divide function by modifying the derivation rules. You can create a characteristic called " No. of items" ( Numeric ) and use it in the planning form. In the derivation rule, use Type as "Costing model" and enter the same Costing model in the "Object". In activation you can define the value with respect to this characteristic.( say XYZ = 3 ). you will have to configure in such a way that if user enters 3, then three Planning forms will appear..if entry is 4 , then four costing models will get populated.

With this arrangement, the costing models will populate automatically , thereby reducing the user workload.

Hope this helps.
