    Dave,

For now (& in very near future), BW would be extracting data from SAP systems via the conventional methods (eg extractors etc). Ofcourse you can interface BW with existing SAP systems via XI. The actual leverage of XI, today, is when BW needs to be fed data from non-SAP applications. There is a document available on integration in BW using XI. Search for Integrate BW via XI.pdf & How to Push Data into BW from XI.pdf in SDN.

Going forward, SAP's roadmap indicates that the conventional interfacing technologies (within SAP systems/applications, including BW) will be replaced by XI.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Homiar.
