MiniWAS 6.20 Installation Problem on XP Pro

To: Anyone That Can Help

I am one of the hordes of people having problems installing MiniWAS 6.20. I had MiniWAS 6.10 formerly installed. I ran the Uninstall script first. Then I procedded to stop the x_server and do a db_cold, stop & drop on WA1. I then did a stop on the other instance (name escapes me). I then was able to delete the SAPDB folder. I also proceeded to delete other SAP related files.

Confident that I had wiped out any trace of 6.10, I then tried to install 6.20. This is the end of the first BSP.log:

I tried to resume the install several times. This is the end of the last BSP log:

I have since visited the SAP Press German board SAP Fans and this board. It seems many people are having similar problems. One entry on the SAP Press board seems to indicate that there are some errors in the scripts on the installation CD.

I have gone into the registry editor but have not touched anything since I do not feel confident about my registry knowledge.

Any feedback is appreciated. I am trying to get set up for a new gig starting on Monday.

Someone has suggested that I delete my installtion logs (Docu~\<name>\Local Settings\Temp\BSPinst\ -- ???). Others have suggested that I make sure no services are dedicated to ports (do I do this in Windows Firewall --> Exceptions and delete msg_server, grwd, disp+work, etc??)

Thanks to any Good Samaritans in advance

from Phoenix - JR

John, I had a similar issue, resulting in being unable to pass 27%, this is most probably caused by incorrect registery entries. First, uninstall all your SAP MiniWAS related application. Secondly - I am not a registry wizard as well - but I removed all entries referencing SAP and XServer (after having made a backup) from the registery and the problem you described disappeared. Give it a try a let me know. Tiest

You mentioned that you were told to remove your install files. Did you try this?

Try removing the Install files and then in your Services see if any of the SAP or DB services are still running if so stop them and set them to start "Manually" reboot and try again.

      Hi Craig,

      Thanks for your response!

I went in to Windows Firewall and deleted the entries for <i>INSTGUI, disp+work, icman, msg_server</i> and <i>grwd</i>. I deleted the <i>BSPinst</i> folder in <i>\DOCU~\<name>\Local Settings\Temp\</i>. (I think this is what you mean by "install" files). To my knowledge, I have no SAP system files on my PC. I still get stuck at 27%. Here is the SAPDB install log:

      <i>CALL: insapdb -I C:\sapdb\data -i C:\sapdb\programs -d C:\sapdb\BSP\db -b

      STDOUT:

MSG: no frame script in package "SAPDBIND.TGZ"

      STDOUT:

      STDOUT: -

STDERR: writeHistory(): cannot create/open historyfile "C:/sapdb/data/config/install/SAPDB_history"</i>

The log says it can't find <i>x_server.exe</i> in the SAPDB folder on my C drive???

On someone's suggestion, I changed the "User Variable" <i>PATH</i> to C:\

      (deleted references to <i>C:\sapdb\programs\bin, etc.)</i>

I took out all SAP related paths in "System Variable" <i>Path</i>

I still have the service <i>SAPDB:_CSAPDBW</i> listed but it is in manual mode and does not appear to be started. If I remember, when I did a <i>dbmcli -db_drop</i>, it did not work on this service.

I have installed 4.6D MBS and MiniWAS 6.10 but I guess I still have a lot to learn!!

      Thanks,

      John
