Hana Express Edition at Azure Connection Problem

I created my own instance of SAP HANA Express Edition at Microsoft Azure via using SAP CAL portal. The instance was created successfully. It starts and runs in green, also on Azure Portal everthing looks good as well. However when I am trying to connect to my instance using http://<VM Public ID>:80. It seemed like this resource is not accessible or rejecting http requests.

I also tried to connect to the system using Eclipse, but I faced with the same result. The instance of HANA seemed to be neither accessible nor rejecting my requests.

I checked virtual machine, ports are open.

Is there any step that I miss ? How I can reach ?

Waiting for your help

Regards,

    Hi Zafer,

There is nothing listening to port 80, which is why no web page displays. Port 8000 (80 + instance number) shows the HANA XS test page.

Concerning connecting with Eclipse / HANA studio, probably the ports are blocked.

Are you working from a location with a proxy server? You need to configure Eclipse to use the same setting (check Preferences > General > Network

There is a video about how to configure and connect HANA express on CAL that you might find interesting:

    Hi Zafer,

Along with what Denys have said, Eclipse studio tries to connect to sql port at 3<instance number>13. Ex 30013. Please check to see if the ports 30001, 30013, 30014 are open and listening on the host VM (netstat -a | grep 30013 should show if listening). If there is a firewall or ports are blocked, please fix this and retry.

    Thanks,

    Hi Zafer,

Were you able to resolve the issue ? I have the same issue connecting to HANA Express Ed on CAL from SAP HANA Studio. It shows all ports as enabled though ..

    Thanks

    Shankar

    • Hi Willem,

The next hint will be to check whether port 30013 and 50013 are open. See the expected result from the command below

      sid-hxe:~ # netstat -a | grep 0013

      tcp 0 0 *:30013 *:* LISTEN

      tcp 0 0 *:50013 *:* LISTEN

If the two ports are open next check if you can open a connection from the OS where you run the HANA Studio:

      telnet <IP address> 30013

      telnet <IP address> 50013

If you can connect with telnet then double check that you choose the right options in the HANA Studio

      Best regards,

      Stanimir

Hi Stanimir, thanks, now it works and HANA Studio can connect.

It is a pity that the port is not configured in CAL - Hana Express Template for Azure. This would have avoided a lot of time.

    Kind Regards

    Willem

    • Hi Willem,

Thanks for bringing our attention on the solution configuration for Azure. Indeed port 30013 was not configured by default. Now this is fixed.

      Best regards,

      Stanimir
