Hi Pals,

I am defining runtime system for DEV and QTS in a NWDI track

Should I choose consolidation also like developement and test under runtime systems?..if not ,in which case the consolidation to be chosen.

Thanks a ton

Hi Daniel,

I can't really tell you when to choose consolidation for runtime system, but I can surely tell you the effect it will have. Since I have dealt with the same questions in my present scenario.

When developers develop and release their tasks/activities in NWDS, each task/activity it comes to consolidation tab in the sequence in which the developers releases it. When you do the import this activity into consolidation, then only the specific activity (which may be a code change in a DC-development component) gets imported into the consolidation system. So, you need to setup a consolidation runtime system only if your project is looking at testing the code individually, which I doubt.

But, if you don't assign a runtime system here, then after import into consolidation tab is completed, the activity will go and sit in the assembly tab inside the software component that contains the DC that was changed/developed. At this stage, when you assemble the software component, then all such activities sitting in that component and waiting for assembly are in fact assembled, so you now get a software component that is consistent by having all the developments assembled together.

It makes sense to only send an assembled SC to the test system so that you can test the component properly. If you setup a runtime system in consolidation tab, then there is not much use of sending in the individual DCs to a consolidation system as the testing environment there would not be very consistent.

Mostly, the consolidation tab simply updates the consolidation buildspace in your CBS.

My suggestion is to leave consolidation empty. Setup Q as runtime system for Test.

Hi ,

Superb explanation..

Eventhough there is no runtime system being assigned for consolidation, will it come between Dev and assembly tabs.

Is there no way of skipping the consolidation tab in between dev and assembly.

Hi,

You need it in case the track is being used for developments.

If you are not doing any developments in the track, then you can go to Landscape Configurator --> Track Data, choose the track and remove the DTR and CBS URLs from track data. This will automatically remove the consolidation tab. But this is useful only, for instance, for production tracks, whose sole purpose is to import the SCs into the production runtime system and no developments are being done in the track.

For a development track, I suggest that you don't fiddle with removing the consolidation tab otherwise your developments will get affected. Also, you do need DTR and CBS services for developments.
