Please see this thread [Project system material |/thread/1989630 [original link is broken]; I had asked the user to search in internet and forum and all I get is an insulting reply

please shut and do your own things

Is it really an offense to tell someone to search the forum or in google ?

Dear Rafi,

Its not good to use this type of language. It will affect person's reputition in the forum.

But one thing which i would like to tell that there should be a nice way to tell the guy that You should search this thing in google or SCN. One of the senior guy (I will not disclose his name) in the forum replied to my thread that ''It would not take much time for you to search in google.'' This is not suitable way of communication?

What you think?

Yes, that was my reply. I have posted many times for many threads to search in google or sdn forum before posting the question. Its not only moderators activity to sort out this, anyone can give the path on how to make use of sdn going forward.

Also, open discussion has been started to share the views on this point (searching before posting). People are happy to help others, same time, I tried to push the author to get some basic idea before posting that. That will make people to analyse more before giving irrelevant replies.

I suggest not to take personal as its in official forum & official reply.

Also, below thread had very simple query (by mentioned by author himself), search can give him these details.

Dear Maheswaran,

Thanks for info.

The query has already been replied by shirazul islam, I appreciate him for providing me path, Actually I did not find the step by step procedure to delete functional location thats why I posted. The link you provided only contains Archiving Objects for PM data. You can check reply by shiraz ul islam how beautifully he explained.

Some times Simple Simple Queries also need guidance!

Thanks & Regards,

I hope, you might have read Mr. Jurgen reply. For some activities, there is a proper path. You can't use Mr. Shiraz solution in all cases.

If you go through the link which I provided, it can give you all the details.

Dear,

Jurgen has his own view.No body is 100% wise. SAP is like an ocean, If there is only one path then SE38 is also standard T Code & we are using standard program in this T Code.Sheraz did not design his own T Code and Procedure.

Moreover even we all learn new things till death again we have achieved knowledge similar to pointer of needle.......Learning never stops. I am always eager to learn new paths.

waqas

Just a last question. How do you know about these programs next time? Do you create an own knowledge database? Or do you just browse SCN again? or use the F4 search in SE38?

creating a favorite to SE38 would not really help.

SARA is in the SAP standard menu.(thats my repository )

But the question in thos thread was if it wrong to ask someone to search before posting.

your issue was about deletion of functional locations.

this is result of a SCN search: 470 hits - What do you think, is it wrong that you was asked to search?

Dear Jurgan,

You are misunderstanding the scenario. I told you already that I am eager to learn new things. If I posted a basic question, One should tell me in nice way if he does not want to help I have no objection, It should be like this way:

1. You should search in google, sdn before posting

2. You can search in google.

3. Search in google before posting

These are nice replies but if u say:

''It would not take much time to search in google''

It would not only hurt me but also everyone who has self respect.

I think now you can understand.

this is what you would get in the MM forum:

Moderator message: Basic frequently asked question - Please search forum for answers and read the docu in help.sap.com

See as well our rules of engagement: http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-19331

A good way to search the forum is with google. See this blog with details for a good search

This blog describes how to use the SCN search: http://scn.sap.com/community/about/blog/2012/12/04/how-to-use-scn-search

Dear Maheswaran,

Please dnt take the discussion personally, My point was just to consider the self respect, no personal feelings since we are all riders of same boat.

I would be more happy to learn new things from you

I hope you can understand my point.

Useful is to ask them what they have found and tried so far.

This makes it clear that there is an answer and you are not going to search for them...

Try to learn and practice how to behave in a public and professional forum.

--> Correct! u2663

Julius, did you assign correct-points to him? Or was it Senthil Kumar seized with remorse? 😆 Made my Day either way.

This behaviour is almost as hilarious as some person I remember complaining about "Stupid Rob, always closing my threads!!" or the like..

BTT: Personally, I don't think it to be offensive asking someone to do better research. It rather is a well meant broad hint.. Also don't let such comments get to you, try to see the comedy in it

You might want to try some sublety next time, as in:

"Stupid Rob, always closing my threads!!" or the like..

I have to admit - that was one of my favourites. I just wish another moderator hadn't changed the title. But I guess it was for the best

Anyway, I think the moderators do, in general, appreciate it when non-moderators pitch in and try to keep the forums working well. It shows the other members that we all working towards the same goal.

Useful is to ask them what they have found and tried so far.

That is my favorite! Hardly ever fails, almost never results in abusive behaviour.

I too ask members for searching the forum or blogs or articles or wiki but , havent had such sort of arrogant and un-acceptable reply. Rather members take it positively and respect the rules of the forum " Search the forum before posting ".

I feel majority of the moderators would appreciate that It is rather right thing to do , so that everyone's time is utilized properly .

just don't concentrate on the replies as Julius has already locked the thread . Report it as abuse so that necessary actions can be taken against such unprofessional behavior and approach .

Cheers ,

Dewang

Thanks everyone for your views. I feel that most of the times people get offended when you say read SAP Help or search forum, All they want is immediate reply/solution to their problem. I really dont understand what is there to get offended, there are abundant SAP knowledge availabe in SDN,most of them really dont explore this site much . But there are few people who seriously follow our words and do the searching, this thread is an example [new layout in CJR2 (user defined layout)|/message/9857375#9857375 [original link is broken]] , this user took the advice and he seriously did some searching , reading and bit of practice from his own side and the result is he succeeded without any further help. I was really happy to see when he said that he solved his problem on his own. That is the kind of spirit we should have.

I dare say that most regular contributors, moderators and admins share your views, just don't take those things personal. There is some gray area in telling apart the innocent newbie from the intentional troll. I think even newbies to SAP stuff can be expected not to be newbies when it comes to phrasing a proper, detailed and polite question or searching for relevant information first, although they will not dig up as much as experts who just know the keywords to use.

It is a matter of laziness, cockiness and some other -nesses. When I see these in a post -> thread locked or moved to T&P.

Of course I phrase the reason for action more politely, or else we will have people starting to blog about how they were being oppressed on SCN

What you have done is absolutely right. In fact, a strong warning should be sent to Senthil Kumar from that Forum Moderator.
