Tools, Documents as quantity 0 in BOM

Hai Experts,

My client in their legacy system is using the following items as materials with quantity 0

1. Tools Required for operation

2. Operation sheets

3. Installation Drawings

4. Test specifications

5 Circuit Diagrams

6 And Etc

All the above are used only for reference purpose in the BOM of the Semifinished Material.

What would be best possible way of converting this requirement in SAP

Tools can be created as PRT and assigned to the Routings. But if we use them in the operations will it be only for reference or will it trigger any other requirements?

From points 2 to 6 seems to be mostly Documents attached with the material in BOM. But we dont use DMS. So i feel it is impossible to have them as documents in the BOM(Correct me if i m wrong).

If we use them as text item with quantity 1,will it be a best practice or is there any other best practice for this requirement.

Please advice me on this.

Thanking you in advance.

Regards,

Kris.S

Hi Krishu,

You need to create Either Equipment or Miscellenious PRT for Object 1.

Create Document PRT for Object Number 2.

And Create Document Items for obejct 3 to 6.

1. Tools Required for operation

2. Operation sheets

3. Installation Drawings

4. Test specifications

5 Circuit Diagrams

6 And Etc

you can attach PRT to Operations in Routing. They will be copied to Production order.

you have to create Allowed document types for PRT's in customiazing and assign them to object PORDER.

Rest of the items you can add as ocument items so they can be copied to production order as document links.

PS: Text items are not copied to proiduction order from BOM.

Hi santosh,

thanks for your reply. But as i have referred before document management system is not in use.

Also if i create a material master PRT and assign them to the routing will that just serve as a reference?

Please clarify on this.

Thanking you in advance.

Hi Kris,

You've got it right; it is better to use DMS, but in case you don't, then text items will do.

PRT's in routings is also OK, and should not cause you any trouble. Of course, if you don't eally need any of the PRT functionality, you could also have them as text items in the BOM, together with the rest.
