Can any one let me know how exactly

Naming conventions

And

Nomenclature are defined in SAP

Because its too difficult to identify the

tables Names,

Field Names

Hello Shashi,

Your query is a bit too vague to be answered completely. You have said that it is too difficult to identify the table-names and field-names.

1. By naming conventions, do you mean the program naming conventions? Or the conventions folllowed to name any dictionary object / program ?

2. Where in the SAP environment do you want to identify them? Are you debugging some standard SAP program and are facing some difficulty?

Please elaborate on your requirement so that it could be answered precisely.

Sorry for Delay in replying your mail

Before joining SAP project I use to work in J2EE environment where methodsnames,class names and variables names are defined with meaningfull naming style

also assume that some way or other way SAP as implemented userfriendly naming style

The Following Questions are

1) Transaction code: some of the T-Code start with SE, SM (system Maintains), etc..... where exactly I can find more on what this abbreviation means

2) Table Names : When you look around tables compare with other Database tables (oracle etc.)

The Table name in SAP looks bit-unjustified combination of characters (which is highly diff to presume that what the table name stands or sounds for)

I believe one can't memories this table names and also eager to know how exactly one should deal

Keep in mind that SAP originated from Germany so many of the terms and abbreviations that you will see are from German words and some English words/terms that you see have been translated from German and may not seem like the best choice.

For example, the client field is abbreviated MANDT which is short for mandant which is German for something like rule maker. Another common example, BUKRS is company code.

If you want to get a feel for transaction names, do an SE16 on table TSTCT. Put in EN for language and whatever selection you want on transaction name. SE - development tools, SM - system tools, etc.

Do not worry too much about learning names, you will pick them up as you go along. Eventually you will know that MARA has materials, EKPO has purchase orders, EBAN has purchase requisitions, etc. I have been working with various versions of SAP for about 16 years and you will find small patterns among names but not any all-encompassing naming standards.

Incase of SAP normally naming convention to be followed for any customization required should start with "Y" / "Z" and provided it should not contain any special characters and the length of the name should be less than equal to 10

As sap being product developed by germany so the naming convention of database as well as fields are related to the german language so if u know german language u have an added advantage over it
