BCS - BW upgrade path

Hi,

We are looking at upgrading to BW 3.5. Also intend to start SEM-BCS implementation. Both BCS and BW are on different instances and connected thru RFC. All the notes I have read indicate that I have to be on SEM-BCS 4.0 for compatibility reasons.

Anybody with experience in this area ?

with regards

Anil

If you intend to start BCS implementation are you sure you want to start BCS on a different instance?

There is the cube based BCS available since SEM 3.2 which runs in the BW system (as BPS). It also integrates with SEM-BPS if you do it carefully.

We had a huge BCS/BPS implementation at Schering with the cube based BCS under SEM 3.1 and it was a big success. There is a Success Story available on it.

To integrate the R/3 based BCS you technically need an SEM on the other side so if you want to have the BW 3.5 core you need SEM 4.0.

    Best regards

I haven't a real experince in indicated releases, but I'm sure that SEM components must be one version higher than BW ones. The compatibility indicated is absolutely right, because of involved kernel versions!

    Hope it helps
