DBUA.sh database not open during 11g upgrade from 10.2.0.4

Hi,

My server was rebooted during my 11g upgrade just as the post upgrade scripts were beginning to run. I re-ran the upgrade dbua script again and this time is stopped due to not enough processes being available. It seems to have installed the 11.2.0.2 database because I can connect to it, start it up, shut it down, select data etc.

I changed the number of processes from 150 to 300 in the initsid.ora file, started the database up and created a new spfile from pfile. Shut this down again to start the upgrade process.

Now when I try to run the dbua script it complains that it cannot open the old 10.2.0.4 database in order for the upgrade to begin again.Keep getting an error ;

ORA-01092: ORACLE instance terminated. Disconnection forced

What do I have to do to complete the upgrade from 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.2?

Regards

Dear Richie,

I fear you won't get dbua to restart your upgrade because it expects an 10.2 database when you start it.

However you can run the scripts in that post_upgrade folder manually, should be no problem once you reached the post upgrade phase.

Start with the post_upgrade_status script and you'll see what's missing.

Kind regards,

Gerd

Gerd,

Thanks, this worked a treat.

I ran through the manual process following Note 1431793 and the upgrade completed successfully, thanks.

Cheers

Richie

What is your operating system?

Not sure about it. But in case of Unix, go to the file /etc/oratab and replace the new ORACLE_HOME by the old one.

anything in alert<SID>.log file?

Hi,

The alert log was indicating to try a startup with the 'upgrade' option. Tried this and the database mounts and opens, however when you try and run the dbua.sh script it halts with an ORA-00600 internal error code.

So I know I can start a 10.2.0.4 and I have an 11.2.0.2, it's just figuring out how to get the dbua to start and complete the upgrade.....

Hi,

Check trace files under "/oracle/PTT/saptrace/usertrace". Additionally, double check your spfile. It may have some wrong values something like "background_dump_dest", "core_dump_dest", "user_dump_dest".
