Netweaver Gateway 2.0

I've seen the announcement of Gateway 2.0. My understanding is that the Duet Enterprise SCL is a Gateway 1.0.

Does it means that there will be an update to Duet Enterprise to include this new version of Gateway? If so, what about this OData stuff? SharePoint to SCL calls will then be based on REST instead of SOAP?

Hi,

actually Duet Enterprise currently uses what we call internally Gateway 0.5. With Feature Pack 1 -- which was just announced at SAPPHRE -- we will switch to SAP NetWeaver Gateway 2.0. All the content that you have developed will still be working.

Since SharePoint 2010 does not support oData, you cannot use the odata channel for data consumption in SharePoint. However, Feature Pack 1 will come with enhanced development tools that allows the conversion of Gateway objects (that you can create for example using the [BOR Generator|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_gateway20/helpdata/en/27/7ff9121fc848b483ead2501eada820/frameset.htm] or [Screen Scraping|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_gateway20/helpdata/en/27/7ff9121fc848b483ead2501eada820/frameset.htm]) into BDC models.

(for an quick announcement of Feature Pack 1, see http://www.sapphirenow.com/sessiondetails.aspx?sId=165)

Hi Holger,

If we already have DUET Enterprise 1.0 installed on a Netweaver ABAP 7.02 system and now we want to use Gateway 2.0... can we install Gateway 2.0 over the top of the DUET install OR should we upgrade to DUET Feature Pack 1 to get Gateway 2.0 features on that ABAP 7.02 system?

Thanks,

Simon

Hi Simon,

You cannot use Duet Enterprise 1.0 and Gateway 2.0.

If you want to run Gateway 2.0 and Duet Enterprise on the same server you have to update to Feature Pack 1 which is currently in ramp-up.

There Gateway 2.0 is included.

Hi Holger,

We are restarting a Duet Enterprise project that had stalled for a few months. We had started with Duet Enterprise V1.0. Now that FP1 is in Ramp Up I am wondering if we should wait for it to be GA. Is there an approximate date for FP1 Ramp Up to end and for the product to be available as GA?

Thanks Holger,

So there is no difference between the Gateway version that is part of DUET Ent. FP1 and the standalone Gateway 2.0 release? If we upgrade to FP1 for DUET we can use Gateway 2.0 in the same way as we would if we had a standalone Gateway 2.0?

I am just trying to decide whether I should stand up another ABAP 7.02 system to host Gateway 2.0 on its own or not.

BRgds,

Simon

Hi,

you can still "reactivate" your Duet Enterprise 1.0 installation and once FP1 is out of ramp-up you can simply update to Feature Pack 1.

Ramp-up does not have a predefined end-date, but is coupled to certain KPIs. Depending on these KPIs ramp-up will end (so I cannot give you a date when Feature Pack 1 will be general available, GA).

I would recommend that you continue with DE1.0 and make sure that all the configuration is correct and working. Then updating to Feature Pack 1 will be quite simple (since most of the configuration of DE1.0 can be re-used in FP1). You might want to wait with your developments on DE1.0 Although everything will still work with FP1, the whole development process is much simpler with FP1 compared to DE1.0.

Hi Simon,

correct. The version of Gateway 2.0 that you can download and use as a standalone server is the very same server that is used for Feature Pack 1 (the "from scratch" installation process starts with installating a plain Gateway 2.0 SP01+ and then continues with installing the Feature Pack 1 bits).

Regards,

Holger.
