Registering non-sap system into SLD

I am at a customer site and the customer have a mainframe non-SAP application. They want to extract data from the mainframe client into MDS (MDM) and after data cleansing it will push the data back to MDC (mainframe computer).

How do you register the mainframe application on XI because when I entered as the third party software, there is no field to choose for mainframe. I have the IP address which I entered as the host name.

The second part is how do you create the logical system MDS and XI on the non-SAP system????

My suspicious is not to register the non-sap system with XI on their SLD but use XML file to load into MDS and after cleansing somehow use external file to load data back into the mainframe computer. Does any XI experts out there have experience on this??? Your help is appreciated.

Hi,

Why do you need to register anything on the mainframe system ? Nothing needs to be defined here for systems defined in the SLD.

When defining the mainframe in the SLD,it should be defined as a <b>3rd party technical system</b>. The type of system is a <b>3rd party system</b> then you should enter the name such as Mainframe and the IP address of the machine.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

Colin.

Hi ,

I have a 3rd party whom I need to set up in the SLD. I have the URL, but while setting up technical system its asking me to select a product. Where do I get this product from?? If so do I define it as a non-sap product in the product catalog with vendor: abc.xls.com

Name : abs_xls

Version : 1.0 settings.

Please help needed.

Hi,

In addition to the earlier email, while creating a product for a 3rd party system it asks for a s/w component. Where do I get it from? Do I have to request the 3rd system to provide me one( if so what kind of file is it?) ....Or is this setting necssary for setting up 3rd party system in SLD.

Hi Teresa,

Follow these steps in the SLD :

1. Create A Software component ( you will automatically create a Product)

2. Create A technical system that uses this

3. Create a Business System.

Hi,

For a 3rd party, just set up a product related to the 3rd party system. The software component is used to store all of your development for the 3rd party system. This can be selected when creating the 3rd party system in the SLD.

Cheers

Hello,

The registering of the 3rd party system and the creation of a software component/product is simply to give you the means at which to store your development in the IR, build your integration scenarios and build your receiver determinations in the ID. The actual communication with the 3rd party system is handled in the creation of communcation channels, and the adapter you choose. The steps provided earlier are sufficient to handle the setup, just remember that the real communcation is handled by the channels defined in the ID.

Hi,

The posts are great but the small doubt lingering in my mind is that the 3rd party is used only for receiving the IDOCS in an XML format..and if I Don't set it up as a Business system and just treat it as a Business service, there is no need for an SLD setup, right..

Chris, as you said yes, the real communication is handled in the adapters and the communication channels. Will the non-setup of the 3rd party in the SLD lead to a HTTP 401:Unauthorized or an "ICM_HTTP_CONNECTION_FAILED"...I think it might not be but correct me if I am wrong...

So you are using the Plain HTTP adapter Teresa? If you set the scenario up as just a business service you'll be fine. I doubt that the error you are getting is because you did not set it up in the SLD.
