Equipment is very unique entity all equipment are physically present unlike material where you maintain stock each equipment is having unique number and when your creating an equipment it means it is present in the plant

,suppose if you have to transfer your equipment to another plant it means that you are dismantling it from existing plant and puting in another plant if number ranges were plant specific the number range would have to be change d which is not possible in stabndard and is ilogical.

that is why sap provides you an option of

1) tech id no. in the structure tab

2) sort field

Hopethis would be enoughto satisfy clients query.

Better solution will be, USE the identifier in SORTFIELD as CNC-100 and for equipment number go for internal number range. So you wont have any problem to identify the CNC-100, and the mean time you can identify the machine where it is by either plant/location or with sap equipment number. Hope this may help you. If you go external number range for the equipment number i would suggest to have some strategy, with a plant identifier in the front.

Well it is better to go for internal number range and thier existing nomenclature to be added in Techid field in structure tab or in Sort field,

why because there are possibility that few equipments will be common equipments in all plants so system will not allow you to create separate equipment.

Hi,

Since ext. no range is used, you may suggest prefixing equipment number with an alphabet-like A,B,C etc, for each plant. This will be the easiest method.

Hi,

In SAP equipment no. range is defined on equipment category not at the plant level

So you can have the same no. range for all the 6 plants(only one no. range for all the plants not the 6 no. range for each plant)

Hi,

1)My client is having two locations one in Bangalore and one in Hyderabad

here Equipment Category is M- Machine which is maintained at both the plants

and suppose under this CNC machine is the Equipment with Equipment number as (Eg: CNC-100)

now client want the same number ( CNC-100 ) to be maintained at both the locations.

2) Why Equipment number is maintained based on Equipment Category and not on Plant basis

plz suggest me the best solution

Hi,

1) You can not have CNC-100 as equipment no. for two equipments. In ur case, use the field TechIdentNo. in the equipment master under structure tab for mapping the same.

So at the report level u can search all the CNC-100 equipments at different plants.

By this u can fulfill ur clients requirement.

2) It's SAP standard.

Thanks,

Sunil

Deepak,

SAP provide the Techinical ID field in the Equipment for this purpose.
