New Formula in the query designer

Hello Gurus,

How do i define a formula taking characteristic and key figure values. I tried to do a selection of both but the problem is its just taking the key figure value and not the characteristic. I am new to this so please if someone could explain it would be a great help. Example have 'Production' as the key figure value, 'Part run count' as the characteristic value. I want to define a formula for 'Part run per metric ton' which is part run count/production/1000. I defined Part run count as a selection including production and part run count but when i defined the formula, the result just takes the production values and not the part run count. Hope my explanation is clear.

Hi Anjali,

If I understand correctly you should try a formula variable. Using that you can use a char value in a formula.

Could you just give me a hint how to do that. I mean am i supposed to create a new variable altogether or is their an other explanation for this approach.

If I understand you right you should first create a selection with your characteristic and key figure. Then you can use this selection in the formula. If you don't want to see the selection in the report, right click on the selection, choose Properties and switch on Hide.

Hello Dirk,

Its not about the visibility in the query about the 'Selection' but when i am trying to define a formula using a selection (which has both key figure and characteristic) and a key figure, the formula takes only the key figure in the selection but doesn't involve the characteristic. So i would like to know how to define a formula using a selection which involved both key figure and characteristic.
