NW7.30 and ESS/MSS

Hello All,

We've installed a new Portal 7.30 system on which we want to use ESS/MSS in combination with an ECC 6 backend (basis 6.04, HR and EA-HR 600). It's totally unclear which version of the ESS/MSS components we need to use (if any). There's a lot of chatter claiming that 600 versions are supported, others say that 603 is supported and yet others that say that it isn't supported yet. Does anybody have the definite answer?

Kind regards and thanks for any replies,

Wilbert

    Hi Wilbert,

ESS and MSS BP's where always more dependent on the backend (ECC) version then the Portal.

When looking at ECC 6 you must also look if EHP3 or higher is installed if so you can use 603 else go for 600.

    see also this wiki: http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=31476

In addition, I'm not sure if the BP's are compatible with 7.3... they where of course build for 7.0 (that runs on a 1.4.2 jdk).

    Cheers,

    Benjamin

    Hi,

if I remember right, ESS/MSS BP for Portal 7.3 is targeted for 2011.3, but I don't know which EHP will be needed.

    Hi Wilbert,

ESS/MSS BP's are coupled towards the EHP release which is installed (and activated) on the HCM backend. If, e.g. your backend has EHP4 you will look for BP ESS 604, etc. You mentioned HR and EA-HR 600. I therefore assume you have not updated to an EHP. Your BP should be ESS/MSS 600. You might want to keep the SPS level of the BP as same as the backend SP level.

Regarding 7.3. Usually there is a minimal requirement, but higher Portal versions had never problems in the past. I cannot really confirm this for 7.3. But why not trying it on a Sandbox?

Update: Just found Note 1532805 - Add-On Compatibility of SAP NetWeaver 7.3 . Business Packages should be supported. It's mentioned that EHP4 Business Content for Java will be supported. Maybe it may help you to log an OSS message to SAP regarding compatibility.

    Regards,

    Andre

    Hi,

Aviad (from SAP Portals Israel) commented this blog: /people/tobias.hofmann/blog/2011/06/09/sap-portal-at-sapphirenow-and-asug-2011

"The SAP Business Packages will be supported also for the NetWeaver 7.3 platform. See more details in the following SAP note: 1532805"

As the note also says: "will" there is currently no BP support, but SAP is working on it.

    br,

    Tobias

    • Hi,

I have just spotted that ESS/MSS and other ERP Enterprise Suite contents appear now to be available for 7.3. It's seems currently still limited up to EHP4 and Java only.

      See SAP Note for reference:

      1532805 - Add-On Compatibility of SAP NetWeaver 7.3

1468349 - SAP Business Suite 7 for SAP NetWeaver 7.3 hub systems

For those who do not already know about it, probably a great news for the Friday 😉

      Regards, Andre
