delta extraction understanding

Hi All, Can anyone tell me whatz the difference between the generic delta in a Generic datasource and the delta in the Lo Cockpit.

    Hi simmi,

    The delta in generic datasource is actually pseudo delta

    which is determined by the extractor. It can use a date field, a timestamp or a incrementing number as the delta field. But the delta in LO cockpit is application delta, ie the delta records (afterimage/before images) are created at the time of the transaction or bulk statistical update (V3 job).

      Hi simmi,

      Well, you can also load the generic delta to Cube also provided you only need new records created and is not intrested in records that have changed during the delta period.

      If you need real delta, or the set of new as well as changed records during the delta period then you will have to use the ODS using (AIE) (New status for changed records) method.

      The architechture of ODS is so helpful that when you activate the data in ODS, it will automatically create the before/after images for us and fill it in the ChangeLog table. From there it can be transfered to the required datatargets using update rules.

      But as everybody will warn you, when you delete records generic delta is rather helpless and you may have to write your own logic using Function modules to accomodate that.

      Hope this clears your doubt.

    Hi Simmi,

    some additional info to what Anoop posted.

    The delta in the Lo cockpit can be posted directly to a cube, whereas the generic delta has to go to a ODS first, in order to get the 'real delta'.

      This depends on the table contents. You could load a generic delta directly into a cube if the application writes deltas directly into the table. If you load the data into an ODS be careful of the key definition.

      And finally don't forget that deleting records in the table always confuses nearly any kind of extractor.
