Mapping repeating X12 segment field to different Idoc fields

We working with SAP XI 3.0 with the Seeburger Adapter. We have a X12 segment N2-element that will have multiple occurences. The first occurence we want to map to Idoc field A and the second occurence we want to map to Idoc field B. Right now the solution is a java snipet in a user-defined function. This is a basic function in our old mapping tool. Is there a better solution in SAP XI?

    Unfortunately there is no standard function.

    However, the java "snippet" can be quite simple and reusable, and used just like a standard function.
