Hello Tech Gurus
I am a functional consultant and I have a technical/architecture question.
We want to send EDI to our external outsourced partner. we have been using TRFC so long and in our opinion this is more reliable.
However they want us to explore the options of FTP and we are not for it.
Could anyone let me know your thoughts on pros and cons of FTP Vs Trfc.
Thanks a lot
The standard File adapter (with FTP protocol) for XI/PI supports secure FTP connection (FTPs) using SSL/TLS. Check help page below for more information.

Both kinds of connections can be monitored using the tools on PI (Runtime Workbench and SXMB_MONI, and also CCMS alerts generation), and can ensure the EO/EOIO protocols, allowing proper handling of issues.
Then, as both supports alerting, monitoring and security features, it will depends on the business requirements. In case the FTP protocol is not required to be used, I don't see why replacing the connection mode would be necessary. In case there are more business details, please advise us so we can provide further inputs.

Hi,
If it is possible to use trfc then I would prefer tRFC over FTP
Communication using tRFC is reliable and secure. Also you can monitor in CCMS and reprocess the LUW. And if the receiving system is not available then it will wait in queue, and you can process once it is available.
FTP is not really secure unless you are using SFTP or FTPS.
Hope this will help.

Pinkle
