Basic question

Hi Experts,

I am really new to PPM.

We have planned to have SAP BPC for SALES/EXPENSE planning and PPM will cover CAPEX and OPEX. So we need to make them connected in the behind of scene.

SAP BPC is NW version so it will be on BW, now I have a question reg. PPM.

Does PPM work on BW?

What DB PPM use?

PPM seems to be RDB architecture, anybody can guide me from architecture point of view? We need to find out what should be customized?

Sorry for the basic question.

Thanks in advance,

Regards,

YH Seo

Hello,

Your thought process is very right. But you will have to remember for the above process to work, there is no direct integration between the BPC and PPM and hence it will be entirely custom development to interface BPC and PPM nevertheless SAP futuristic way is to move towards BPC for planning and PPM for operational execution of projects and then you should be able to reconcile both the planned and operational $.

"Does PPM work on BW?"

Yes PPM and BW can work together to give excellent reporting capabilities. The latest release is PPM 5.0 and is NW based.

"PPM seems to be RDB architecture, anybody can guide me from architecture point of view? We need to find out what should be customized?"

I suggest that you hire a PPM consultant as the scenario you are talking is definitely cutting edge and apparently there is no in house knowledge regarding PPM implementation. The consultant can also guide you through capturing the CAPEX and OPEX in a better way using cProjects.

Hope this helps!

Hi N K,

We are looking for a consultant of PPM already. But not easy to find someone in South Korea.

I am the consultant of SAP BPC and SALES/EXPENSES planning, will work with a consultant of PPM on the topic. Before engaging him/her, I need to explain what BPC need and how BPC will interface with PPM.

Maybe I change my question like this.

SAP BPC will work on BW, and DB will be Oracle.

--> What do we need to transfer data from BPC to PPM OR PPM to BPC?

The customer just want to know the possibility of integration.

Not easy to find information reg. PPM in Portal, could you tell me where I can find out? I can get into the portal with S-ID.

SAP PPM is also based on NW ( in your terms will work with BW) and one can have any underlying DB in your case Oracle is fine too.

You have not given your scenario or industry or main objective of your implementation but came to the conclusion that BPC - PPM integration is the way to go. Having the said info will probably help me guide you better.

Basically BPC is planning tool and PPM is a tool for project execution and portfolio management. In BPC you will have the planned values and PPM you can have the ACTUALS (CAPEX and OPEX). End of the day I will assume any management will want to reconcile the planned against the actual values. So you will have to transfer all the planned objects, values and attributes to PPM if you are doing Top down approach so.

Here are few links for PPM:

2. refer to SDN WIKI as well.

3. www.sap.com/instguides

Hope this helps explain your customer.
