Hello,
According to the other forum threads I understook that Universe cannot be built on a BEx query in an Information Design Tool. Is it correct?
If so how can we leverage BEx queries in BOBJ Explorer if we do not have BWA?
thanks for any input.
hi,
You define SAP NetWeaver BW connections that use the SAP BICS Client middleware driver to provide access to a BEx
Query. SAP BusinessObjects query and reporting applications connect directly to the BEx Query. You cannot use these
connections as a source for business layers or universes.
In the information design tool you can define SAP NetWeaver BW connections for the following purposes
Make an SAP NetWeaver BW BEx Query available to SAP BusinessObjects query and reporting applications.
1. Use the New OLAP Connection wizard to define an OLAP connection. Choose the SAP NetWeaver BW SAP BICS
Client middleware driver.
2. Publish the connection to a repository where it can be accessed by query and reporting applications.
Include a connection to SAP NetWeaver BW in a multisource universe.

hey Suman, did you figure this out? We are trying to do the same, connect BO 4.0 Explorer to BEx Query. IDT is not allowing us to create universe on BICS layer and Explorer only allows to create InfoSpaces on Universes.
thanks,
Sam

Hi there,
Was there any solution for this?
I was able to connect via BICS, however when I published this and tried to create a business layer on top of this, it gives me an error message.
Error.
An error occurred while selecting the connection.
The connection is not supported.
Any thoughts and ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Iris
Hi All...
Thanks,..I was checking this for long and I come to know In BI 4.0 IDT, we cannot create Business Layer from an OLAP connection using BICS.
I am new to BI 4.0 and I need some clarification regading SAP business objects BI 4.0
Here we have to use 2 data sources one is SAP BW and Oracle data base.
1. Kindly suggest which are the possible ways to connect two data sources at universe level or anywhere if possible.
2. Is there any possible way to create universe at Multidata provider level and get the required Webi report?
If you have any PPT documents regarding BI 4.0..Kindly send to my mail id
Thanks a lot
Hi,
you should have started your own thread for this question.
No, you cannot join OLAP and Relational in a multi-source universe. (MSU)
so ORA and BEx in a single universe is not going to happen.
however, you can create a BW-SQL 'relational' universe (but this goes direct to infoprovider/cube, not BEx)
and in this way you could an MSU to link ORA and BW into a single UNX business layer - but beware the joins.. performance could be horrific.
however, you can also merge webi dataproviders (queries) - so link sources at 'document level' : you could have 1 ORA relational .unx and 1 BICS OLAP .cns and unionise them in the report.. however, i suspect performance could be shocking

H
