Hi all,

I just made this observation and wanted to share it with all you guys.

From SAP BASIS Release 700, the SAP Logon password field has become 12 characters in length. Moreover, it is now case sensitive.

If you go to transaction SU01 in the change mode, on the "Logon Data" tab, you will find a note beneath the password field which says this.

I have heard a lot of people expressing their concern over this problem. With the entire authorization concept centered on the USER, sharp criticism has been showered upon SAP for not satisfying the most basic rule of case-sensitivity for Passwords. Well, for all those of you who have felt so, just wait to get the BASIS Release 700!!

Have Fun.

Anand Mandalika.

Hi Anand Mandalika,

Thanks for sharing this info.

Can you provide some more general info about the next basis release?

A couple of month ago I asked info in the WAS forum, but I got no answer.

I can guess, that it will contain WebDypro for ABAP for example, but what else?

I have the impression, that there is a reason that there is a gap between the release numbering (eg. 6.50-6.90 was not released for customers), which means there will be a big step and lot of new stuff.

Thanks in advance,

Peter

Hello Peter,

You are right, I guess the BASIS release 700 has not yet been released for the customers. Only one of the systems that I work on has this release. The others are all 620 or 640.

Regarding the other features, I can only post them as and when I discover them.

Appreciate your interest and glad that the you found the information regarding the passwords interesting.

Regards,

Anand Mandalika.

Hi Anand Mandalika,

I already have an experience asking about not-yet-released thing (eg WebDynpro for ABAP) normally I got negative answer.

However if it's possible, can you provide some info about SE80 or the ABAP-editor?

In one of the Teched Session about the New ABAP debugger, there is an otlook section with screenshoot. It seems the ABAP editor get coloured...which helps code readablility.

Any info about this?

Sorry if it's still TOP-SECRET.

Thanks,

Peter

oh wow. Well I am not sure, should I praise or should I criticize as from authentication point of view, it is very good, but considering the number of passwords that I remember(from debit card to logging into various email services to different production/quality/development servers), might as well go crazy.

Hi Subramaniam,

I totally agree with you. But in my case, my SAP logon password usually coincides with my (case-sensitive) password for something else ( so that i will have to remember fewer passwords).

All these days, I have been worrying that typing out certain letters in uppercase had not made any difference to SAP Logon. Now I'm happy that my efforts (of typing a few characters in uppercase) will be rewarded. )
