How many type of semantic layers are there?

1. Universe semantic layer

2. Business View

these two are OK.

But can an voyager connection be considered as a semantic layer, since voyager reports need this connection to create reports?

What about the present voyager, Pioneer, does it also use voyager connection or any other semantic layer?

According to me, only the Universe layer and Business View layers are Semantic Layers.

I would say, Voyager connection is just a connection but not a sematic layer. Here the Voyager connection connects to OLAP cubes. But not to any semantic layer.

And I don't have any k nowledge about Pioneer.

    hi,

Please refer below links for Pioneer.

    http://www.ittestpapers.com/blogs/pioneer---sap-bo-new-olap-reporting-tool.html

    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/shop?rid=/media/uuid/905d0ad2-9060-2b10-73bc-ce42a5668c6e

Based on the information, Pioneer can be treated as OLAP Analysis tool rather than Semantic Layer.
