Regarding database migration and server hardware.

Hi Experts,

We have Oracel 10g database running on HP-UX 11i V1 on RP7400 server i.e. PARISC architecture. We are planning to do database migration from Oracle to MaxDB. But we are also planning to upgrade the server i.e. new server which is having ITANIUM architecture and also planning to upgrade the HP-UX operating system version from HP-UX 11i V1 to HP-UX 11i V3.

Please let me know how to proceed with this migration?

Thanks,

Narendra

Just make sure the database version you use for the import is supported (check PAM).

You could start with downloading the SAP System Copy guide for your SAP release and platform from here:

https://service.sap.com/instguides

A migration from PARISC to Itanium is straightforward, but a migration from Oracle to MaxDB makes it a heterogenous system copy, so you need to be certified or involve a certified migration consultant.

Thanks Marku2026I want to know once I export the oracle database to MaxDB format through heterogenous system copy method which is on PARISC hardware and running HP-UX 11i V1 as operating system. As we are going to have the new server for Production which is on Itanium hardware and running HP-UX 11i V3 as operating system.

Is it possible to directly import the data on Itanium hardware and running HP-UX 11i V3 as operating system? Or I have to import the data first on PARISC hardware and running HP-UX 11i V1 as operating system and then do the migration from PARISC to Itanium?

Thanks,

Narendra

Hi,

the exported database is platform independend.

But a certified Migration Consultant will know what to do and in which order.

You just export the database (selecting maxdb that he copies the nessesary ddl files) and then install you new system.

After that you can use sapinst to install / load the sap system using the export.

kind regards

One may need to use table splitting (dowtime reduction), one may need special load arguments for R3load, SMIGR_CREATE_DDL etc. - so it's not as easy as just exporting and importing
