    What are you installing?

Do you have full administrator rights on the server during the install?

It's an XP fresh install, I logued in with the administrator account windows XP creates by default.

Do you think it's a user rights problem?

For those that do not have the luxury or re-building OS,

I think the solution would have been to take ownership of the file system with the account you are doing the install with. I believe that would solve the problem as I have had similar problem and taking ownership of the file system was the solution for me.
