BSP to access SQL database?

Just curious to find out if this is an option..

We use web AS 6.40, can we write in ABAP to query data from a SQL database?

Thanks in advance..

Better forum would the ABAP forum for this. But yes you can connect to an external database with ABAP.

Search the ABAP forum for "external database" it was a long time ago but there was a perfect example. If yo can't find it post again and I'll dig up my links.

Does you WebAS 640 run on the windows platform? To use the external database connection, you have to have SAP Database kernel files for that database. The only platform that supports the kernel files for MSSQL is Windows.

Since you are on 640, another option that would give you better separation might be to access a webservice that in turn accesses the SQL database. The following is a weblog that tells you how to consume a webservice from ABAP.
