Installation Issues CR 2011

Former Member
0 Kudos

Upgrade2011 will not install. Stops with Error message "Failed to update cache for execution. Program will exit."

Stops around file "tp.open ssl-0.98l-core32,14.0.0,760"

File kb246-7175 is not on my system.

System is xp with all service packs, and I have standalone version of cr 2008 running.

Rick,

Are you still having this issue? I was but after reading this thread, I tried a few things which might work. Let me know.

No I gave up and asked for my money back, which was promptly recived. I will continue with CR 2008. I've spent enough time messing around with the install. Dennis you helped a great deal, thank you very much for the effort.

I have the same problem.

I'm installing on cr20111 on windows vista and getting "Failed to update cache for execution. Program will exit".

I have CR10 & 11r2 and VS2005 & 2008 on this machine.

Is there a solution to this yet?

Thanks Don, I did as you last suggested, i.e disconnected from internet, turned of security, checked DEP, it was on essential only and even tuned off Mysql. Here is the new log file. It failed tried to CacheDUs. Unless you have any more suggestions I will purchase a support. How do that for a new product like this?

Hi Rick,

Interesting, it's SQL Express trying to be installed. BOE uses it as the CMS database ( it's the DB used if one is not provided )

Do you have Visual Studio 2010 installed on this PC also or anything that would install SQL Express?

As for the case, because CR 2011/BOE 4.0 is in Ramp up stage, meaning it's not GA I'm not sure if you can get a support case. I'll check once that team gets in and see what I can for you and how it all works.

Where are you located?

Thanks

Good Morning Don,

Glad you havent quit on me yet.

I removed CR 2008 from computer and installed the CR 2008 Sp3 you sent a link to. No problems with that.

Then I removed temp folders and files, rebooted and tried to run setup again. It stopped; below is the log file info.

Hi Rick,

New error this time... That may be caused by CR having a dependency on Java SDK being installed, not installed or wrong version.

Can you uninstall ALL CR products and then go into Program Files, delete the Business Objects folders:

C:\Program Files\Business Objects

C:\Program Files\SAP BusinessObjects

Then if you are OK with delete registry keys go into regedt.exe and delete these:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SAP BusinessObjects

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Business Objects

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Business Objects

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SAP BusinessObjects

You may want to do a reboot here also...

And then try CR 2011 install again.

I have tested this on XP 64 bit and it works for me.

Next is to disconnect your PC from the network and disable your anti-virus software as well as DEP ( data execution prevention ), set it to Essential Service Only if it is not already.

Also Check your AV logs to see if they are blocking anything, try adding crw32.exe to the trust app list.

Other than that unless we can repro the issue here I can't doing any more testing so I suggest you purchase a support, if it is a configuration bug you can get a refund, if it's not a CR problem though no refund.

Thanks

Don,

I have re-booted several times and still no change.

I have CR 2008 on the machine, one version is 488.00 mb the second is 1,005.00 mb. I dont know why there are two, CR 2008 on this machine. CR 2008 works fine.

Do you think I should take off CR 2008? I bought upgrade version so I don't want to then run into that issue.

Thanks for your help, didn't know you were on staff.

Hi Rick,

Not sure what 488 1005 means, the size of the folders maybe?

Anyways, if you can yes try to remove CR 2008 using the Add/Remove Programs. Make sure you have your keycode available just in case.

Thanks

Thank you for your help. Is there any way to get a hold of someone at SAP with this issue?

Hi Rick,

I am SAP, note the little SAP logo beside my name. Interesting, I've never seen a 3D graphics error before.

Do you have any other CR software running? Seems to be a version conflict and likely due to the files being locked.

What happens if you run the installer again after a re-boot?

Thanks

Hi mjhock,

I'm not sure this is the same issue. Do you have any anti-virus software running?

You may want to remove yourself from this thread and create a new post. You are getting a different error.

Oh and I should mention you can upgrade to CR XI R2 for free:

https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100011802732008E/crxir2_sp4_full_build.exe

https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100015859952009E/crxir2win_sp6.exe

Use your XI keycode to install it.

Thank you

One thing you guys may both want to try is to delete ALL files in your temp folders, there can be left over files that can cause issues. Then if the install finished go into add/remove and do a repair install. If CR 2011 is not listed then try to re-install again.

Seems to me there is something causing the redirects in the installer.

If I remove CR 2008, where do I get a replacemnt download? I have my reg. code, but no disk.

Good Morning Don,

I have mysql server, apache and Arc Gis on the machine, along with Microsoft Professional office and adobe acrobate professional 10, plus updates and other misc programs. Trying to figure out a way to give you a text file of all my programs..

Don't have visual studio 2010 on machine.

I am located in Jupiter Florida, near West Palm Beach. do you have a service office in area? Would be happy to bring box by, or whatever...

Hi Rick,

We don't have "drop in support centers" but they may... We do have an office in Lake Mary.

Did you purchase CR 2011, every purchase gets support, Trial version no? If so then you can contact CIC team and they will create a support case for you.

Thanks again

Don

UPDATE: Just to clarify, if you purchase BOE 4.0 then a Support Contract is required and you get support for CR 2011. Standalone CR 2011 is only supported within these forums unless a separate support Contract is purchased.

Don,

Yes I purchased CR 2011 upgrade for $295. When I asked about support they directed me to this forum. How do I get a hold of a person to talk to and do an online session or something. I thought you were the support they were talking about.

What antivirus software are you using (if any)? I believe that earlier in the thread you said that you tried installing with your antivirus off, but I'd just like to double check.

A good tool for debugging a problem like this is Microsoft's Process Monitor: [http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645|http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645]

WARNING: I realize that this might be a bit technical, but if you're up for it, you might make some progress on this problem.

Steps to use process monitor to debug this problem:

1) download and run process monitor

2) when it starts it will be capturing events. We're only interested in file system events here, so turn off registry events, network events and process & thread events. You can control this with the toolbar on the top right. (I'm assuming that they haven't moved things on me.)

3) Click on the filter button and add a filter rule so that it only captures events from the process named setupengine.exe.

4) Launch the CR 2011 installer. Go through the install until it fails. Wait for the setupengine.exe process to go away.

5) Stop capturing events in process monitor (option under the file menu)

6) Check the CR install log, see what file/directory it was trying to copy when it failed.

7) Look near the end of the process monitor output for the name of the directory you found in step 6.

😎 Hopefully you'll see the file system event that failed and the result & detail columns in the output will tell you why.

Did anyone figure out a solution? I was able to install on my laptop, but not my desktop.

Hi Rick,

I installed it on my PC on the weekend and had no errors so not sure what the issue is on your desktop PC. Look in the Install log to see if it points to the cause.

I believe you'll find the logs in this location: C:\Program Files\SAP BusinessObjects\InstallData\logs

I'm still not able to install. Stops with the cache error. I did find the error logs. The short one, setupexe.log has a single line:

15:32:09 Unable to open file :C:\Users\MJH3~1.MED\AppData\Local\Temp\2011.05.20.15.32.09\setupexe.log

15:32:09 Welcome to setup.exe!

15:32:09 SetupEngine.exe command line: -engine "C:\Downloads\Crystal Reports 11 Installation\DATA_UNITS\CrystalReports\setup.engine
" -bootstrapper "C:\Downloads\Crystal Reports 11 Installation\DATA_UNITS\CrystalReports
" -l "C:\Users\MJH3~1.MED\AppData\Local\Temp\2011.05.20.15.32.09"

The long one, setupengine.log has way too much to post here. Anyway someone can take an upload to look at it?

Thank you Don for your help,

I also installed 2005 C++, plus the update.

When I retried to install CR 2011, I got the key code error.

I uninstalled update kb 2467175 and then retired to install CR 2011 and ended up with the same earlier error. ie.

"Failed to update cache for execution. Program will exit."

I dont have 2005 C++ installed and CR 2008 works fine. Are you saying I should install this package for 2011?

Yes, it's required for CR for VS 2010. You have to distribute it also for app PC's.

Hi Guys,

Did you search MSDN for the kbase listed in your original post: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2467175

Basically you are missing the 2005 C++ runtime files with the security updates.

Have you installed it? Windows update won't download it, it doesn't know you need it.

Thanks

Don

Hi Rick,

CR 2011 is the same ( sort of ) as Cr for VS 2010. The version for you is 14 but this post has a lot of install issues various users had due to OS permissions settings.

See if right clicking on the setup.exe and selecting the various run as and other options gets CR 2011 installed.

Please post which one worked for you.

I think due to CR2008 you have this problem. Try to download installation guide from help.sap.com, this will help you.
