Defining Personnel Subareas

Can we use the same personnel subarea for more than one personnel area within a company code? E.g. Company code = C1; Personnel areas under C1 = PA1,PA2, PA3. Can we define a personnel subarea PSA1, which is under both PA1 and PA2?

Assuming that SAP allows for the above, is it recommended to configure like that? what are the advantages/disadvantages of doing so?

Hi,

Technically it is possible to create same PSA codification for 2 different PA. Because in table T001P, Personnel Area and

Personnel Subarea both form the primary key.

Like,
Personnel Area Personnel Subarea
PA1 BHDP(Batch House)
PA2 BHDP(Batch House)

Is possible technically.

But you know process wise these two BHDP are at different location but may be they have same function. Hope this will help you.

Regds.

ok let me take the first shot at this:

1. psa's --> can be defined based on locations or business functions, but the recommended best practise is them to be based on locations

so that means I have business functions hr and finance and they are the personnel areas, then I can technically have location1 and location 2 respectively in each of those personnel areas.

2. careful when you decide on your psa and esg's coz they have a lot of meaning further down in time and payroll modules so it is best to allow the pay and time consultant to design these two aspects of personnel structures in a hcm implementation.

If you follow the above 2 pointers we dont really have to go down the pros and cons path.

cheers

Thanks for the reply. The actual scenario in my project is like this: There are two personnel areas (say, PA1 & PA2) under a company code. They want to define personnel subareas based on departments. (e.g. PSA1 - HR, PSA2-Finance, PSA3-Marketing etc). Can we attach these personnel subareas PSA1, PSA2, PSA3 to both the personnel areas PA1, PA2? From your reply, I understand that SAP allows for it. However, does it make sense in the context of the scenario or should I try and convince the customer to decide on personnel subareas based on some other considerations?

Hi,

It is very much possible to have same PSA in 2 different PA's and there will be no problem in doing so.

Location(PA) and based on location Departments can be same in all locations(PSA)

Well i think you can do the configuration based on current scenario, should not be a problem.

Hopefully this will help you decide on how you should go about the configuration.

There is no issue on using the same PSA across more than one PA as the combination of PA and PSA will always be unique and that is what the idea is.

Hence you can use it.
