Excel Web Query using BW bookmark

If I supply a BW bookmark that passes the user id and password as the source for an Excel Web Query, my assumption is that the user id and password would be passed as clear text from Excel. Is this true? If this is the case, is there a secure way to do this.

I have tried to find the answer elsewhere, but have not been successful. Note that this is just using Excel, not BEx.

    Hello John,

please have a look at single-sign-on (SSO) using certificates. This will improve the user experience since much less logons are required and no ids and passwords have to be passed in clear text.
