Batch job failure due to object locking

Hi Gurus,

I'm facing an issue where I get batch job failure notifications due to document is locked by user. If the batch iob is processign one document and the same document being used by user then it cause the batch job failure. Is there any way to lock the these document till batch job runs. Can we use any locking method so that end user cannot process this document till batch job runs. please throw some light.
