Material Classification

Hello

I would like to use material classification functionality for material master.

I have created class with class type material class and then created characteristics and assigned the same to the class.I have then created the material and assigned the class and characteristic values.

Now my question is if we assign multiple characteristics values can we use them to track the material.

Ex-I have class type motor and RPM are say 2400 and 3600. Now while creating the material, in the characteristics RPM I have assigned both the values of RPM 2400 and 3600.

Now sometimes I may get motor with RPM 2400 or 3600 under the same material Code.Is there any facility in PO,GR that I can select the RPM value and so that I have stock of motor with both RPM under the same code.

Is this correct way of using the classification concept or I am missing something?

Hi,

If you want to use material classification then you need to create separate material master for Motor with 2400 RPM and 3600 RPM. And then do the PO --> GR for the relevant material master of Motor. In this case, Material Classification will just serve the purpose of storing the information, reporting and printing.

In case you want the control on the RPM and create single material Motor with its variants of 2400 RPM and 3600 RPM then you have to use variant configuration concept with configurable materials and class 200 & 300 will come into picture.

For more details on variant config, refer links;

Alternatively to what Pankaj is pointing out you could also use batch management for this.

Activate it for the material in the plant view.

Post to batch 2400 and batch 3600 during GR.

Even in MMBE the stock per batch will be displayed.

But be aware the batch number will from now on required in every posting for this material, which can be a curse.

Best,

Ralf
