Data Extraction - 0FI_GL_4 -> Full, Init and Delta...

Hi,

I'm about to extract the data from FI - BSEG table using 0FI_GL_4 datasource. This table has more than 7 million records and hence I'm planning to extract the data in chunks - Fiscal Year wise - by giving the selection criteria in the infopackage.

I would like to extract the data using a 'Full' Infopackage by selecting data year-wise and initiate delta selecting 'Initialize Delta Without Data Transfer' option in the 'Init' infopackage.

The question is, should the above initiation of the delta be done before or after the full load? What is the pros and cons?

Thanks,

Sri.

Well, the idea of loading it Fiscal year-wise is fine. Helps you keep a control on the volumes.

There are a couple of aspects:

1. Say, you have a down-time available:

You will have to perform a Full Load first and then the Initialization.

2. If you do not have the down-time:

Perform the Init first, then you will have to do a Repair Full so as not to disturb the Delta.

People normally prefer a Repair Full.. But again, all depends on your requirement & the time in hand.

Hi Vishal,

Thanks for the response.

Getting a down time on the ECC Production is very difficult. So, is option 2 the only way to go?

Thanks,

Sri.

Hi,

Well FI GL works on Timestamp based extraction.

The new records will go to BSEG and changes will sit in BWFI_AEDAT.

I believe you should do an init w/o data transfer first and then continue with your REPAIR FULL loads. Here's why.....

If you do an init first, the time of delta init will be logged in timestamp table BWOM2_TIMEST. Now suppose you did it on May 10th 10 AM IST. Now your delta flag is set in the timestamp table. Now you do your repair full loads and once your repair full loads are completed, you can start deltas. Now Deltas will bring new and changed data from the time of delta init, i.e. from 10th May 10 AM till current system time - safery interval (say 10 minutes - this you can find in ROOSOURCE table). That means that deltas will also bring same records which full loads have brought in but as the 1st level is standard DSO, same data will be overwritten and the data consistency will remain intact.

On the other hand if you do FULL first and then init, what might happen is that during the time interval of after FULL load for fiscal year 2010(for example) and before delta init, if there are postings, they might get lost.

The only thing you should make sure is that at the time of delta init w/o data transfer (which is very small, may be 1-2 seconds), there are no postings in ECC so better do it in weekends or night time of business country.
