Reserve stock for a particular customer.

Hi,

We have a requirment in which, customer PO is not known in advance when the stock needs to be reserved. The business Require a functionality to reserve stock in advance for particular level 1 or 2 customers then are able to select which sales orders to allocate that stock to at later date. They are a make-to-stock business.

Any suggestions welcome!

Thanks

More info is required; like do you do ATP on orders?

If not, what is the practice of stock allocation?

Lets say that you do ATP on orders, and thats why you want to "put aside" some stock for potential incoming orders; there are four options:

1- create one or more storage locations that are excluded from MRP/ATP, and put there the stock that you want to reserve. This stock will not be available in ATP. When you want to use it, move it to a regular storage location. NOT A GREAT SOLUTION!

2- use WBSs to reserve the stock. WBS stock will not be available for MTS ATP. When receiving a SO from a customer for which you have reserved stock in a WBS, change the item category and specify the WBS so you can deliver directly from the WBS. BETTER SOLUTION.

3- create an advanced SO for the customer, block for delivery; use an item category that allows for sales order stock. Move stock to the sales order stock. When the "real" order is coming in, just remove the delivery block and use the advance order as the real order. Deliver from sales order stock. ALSO A GOOD SOLUTION.

4- use product allocation and ATP against that. Standard SAP solution for pure MTS stock allocation. BEST SOLUTION, but a bit cumbersome to set up and use.

    Hi Mario Adler,

    Thanks for the response.

They are using standard stock allocation with an additional functionality in which they have a horizon period wherein if the delivery date is more than 10 days stock will be moved to a dummy storage location and we are running a batch job daily which check those str.location and put that back into main str.location.

As you have already suggested it is a cumbersome process,If you could provide me the configuartion set up on how to map this requirement through avail.check against product allocation that would be of great help to me.

    Thanks for your time!
