DB restore from win2003 IA64 to win2008 x64.

Hello Guys,

We have this situation where our current PRD is running on the win2003 IA64 (host1) server along with MS SQL 2005.

Now we have done the complete Homogeneous System Copy on a new hardware that has win2008 R2 6.1 x64 (host2) on MS SQL 2005.

Also on the new server the SAP system has been built up as the HA system with MSCS Cluster.

My questions is will the DB restore be successful if I try to restore the backup of the current system (host1) to the new system (host2)?

Or shall I have to do the system copy procedure again?

If I have to do the system copy procedure again--

1. Do I have to start all over again or only installation of DB instance will suffice?

2. Do I have to reinstall the CI and DI also?

Pl suggest If anybody has faced this.

If you restore the database it should work flawlessly.

The dispatcher dies after the restore of the DB.

Everything else works fine ( all the services/msg server/DB connection on MS SQL/enqserver ).

It seems that this is a DualStack system. Be aware of the fact, that a system copy of such a system can't be done by just copying the databsae. You have to export the Java content on the source system and run sapinst to create the new system.

I believe new system still refering to P53 schema.Is this production system? I believe you need to create a new schema as per your new database name. Check if you have refered all system copy procedure as per standard and if missing something do as per system copy guide.

It is best to do a Homogeneous system copy in such conditions.

There is very little chance that the DB restore is gonna work.
