Want to extract data from a SAP BW system via Informatica ... Please help

Hi Everyone,

After doing a lot of reasearch on SAP front I am still not very sure regarding this topic. So, I am opting for the safest as well as the fastest way of knowledge gathering.

Question in details: I want to extract data from SAP BW system using third party tool (Informatica). I created an Open Hub Destination (OHD), source for the OHD is DataStore. After that, I created Transformation and Data Transfer Process (DTP) on the OHD. Then, I created a Process chain (which internally contains START Process, ABAP program and the DTP program) all linked in the same manner as mentioned above. Informatica is provided as an RFC destination in the OHD and also in the ABAP Program wherein the Program Name is "ZPMSENDSTATUS" and the Program Variant includes the Informatica Workflow information (folder and workflow name).

Problem: When I am running the process chain the data is not getting transferred to the target defined in Informatica.

Please help me out with the steps as described above. If anything is wrong above then please drop a comment stating the correct way. If anyone want to suggest some better technique for the same result, I will be more than happy to listen to it.

I am not very familiar with SDN. So, if after reading anyone feels like I have posted this question in a incorrect forum, please mention that in the comments. I will do the neccesary changes.

Thanks in advance.

Amitava.

Amit,

I am doing the exact same thing as you explain in your post.  In our case, we are moving the data from BW using OHS and Informatica to an external database table.

We have a very simple mapping in PowerCenter, because we are just testing this new process.  Were you successful?

I am currently trying to creating and configuringe the process chain and the ABAP program variant within the process chain. I am interesting in seeing an example of the entries in the program variant.  Specifically, I need the entries for the CONTEXT and OHDEST fields.  I am not sure what it is telling me to put in those fields.

thank you,

Linda

Linda, CONTEXT field should be 'OHS API' This states you are using the Open Hub Service and or an API call. OHDEST field should have the destination you want to push the data to.

Good luck!

We still can't get the session in Informatica to not fail when starting the process chain via the workflow.

Hi Amit,

I got an assignment, wherein I have to extract the SAP data from SAP/CRM and load it into a flat file using Informatica 9x.

I didnt' have any prior experience of SAP-Informatica integration.

I therefore request you all, please help me in getting some valuable blogs or documents related to SAP-Informatica 9 integration.

Thanks in Advance.

Hey -

If the conncetions are fine,.Plz check whether the destination table in Informatica is defined,.

Becoz for OHS,.the destinations should be a table / file,.

Hi Vijay, Can you suggest any specific forum?

Hi Vishwa,

The destination for Informatica is a flat file. The file is not read only, and it is present in the specified directory even. So, the problem is not with the destination.

Any input on the issue considering Informatica and SAP connectivity. I mean to say, anyone faced such issue because of Informatica and SAP connectivity. For Informatica connectivity, I am using SAPBWOHS (SAP BW PowerExchange connection), Informatica version 9 - Hotfix 2. In the connectivity I have selected Open Hub Destination as my source and target flat file. I am starting the execution from SAP Process Chain.

Thanks for your replies guys but still the issue persits. Please help.

Hello amit-

I hope the connections from both the side should look fine,.

You check the connection parameters in Informatica tooo,. It should be Just like an ODBC connections or giving the SAP connection parameters in Informatica.

Unless the connections from both the end (-> -- <-) is fine the the data will flow.

And make sure the file in the informatica is in write mode. If there is an option for the same you choose the write mode rather than "not read only " mode.

Hi Vishwa,

Thanks for your reply. I just wanted to mention another point in this discussion, I am not using Data Export into ExternalSystems => Infospoke in SAP BW process chain, else using Data Transfer Process => Open Hub Destination in the process chain. I don't think that should be an issue, I think Data Transfer Process also gives the facility to extract data. Correct me if I am wrong?

The connections I have checked, the file is in write mode, SAP connections using SAP BW Open Hub Service (SAPBWOHS) as provided in Informatica, credentials for SAPBWOHS is provided in the entry screen when importing source in Informatica. Another question; Do I have to explicitly register the connection in SAP somewhere or while importing source in Informatica the credentials that I have provided will suffice.

Thanks again for your reply.

Hi amit-

You check for the source parameters in Informatica,.Becoz BW will a source for Informatica,.

you check with informatica guys abt the parameter to be given,. I am not that much aware of the informatica,. I know datastage ,.you check in the informatica designer for any "stage" specific to SAP or Non SAP. you take that stage and give the BW Infospoke OHS parameters and link to your file,.
