Error on Deploy

When I try to deploy the CarRental J2EE tutorial application I keep getting this error:

QuickCarRentalDictionary.sda -> Deployment aborted

Reason:

Cannot determine sdm host (is empty). Please configure your engine/sdm correctly !

I tried going to the SAP Management Console but it does not allow me to start the SDM process in the Process Table. Anyone know what could be wrong?
