EP6 SP6 KM4 problem

I have WAS 6.4 SP8 installed. I installed EP6 SP6 successfully and was able to log in. I then attempted to install KM SP4 and it hung at the last step (this problem has been posted in other forums and no answers yet). Now, I cannot get the server instance to get past the 'starting applications' state, so no portal, no system info, etc. I haven't been able to get any meaningful information from any logs but maybe I'm not in the right place. Comments, suggestions?
